Oh my, I saw that and the first thing I thought was "that's what Wayne would like in drag!"

I've been waiting for this one to come out myself.

I sure am glad that this movie comes out just in time when I get back to the States. I wasn't sure at first with Ziyi Zhang playing the role, but all doubts went away after seeing the preview. I'm excited!

I, for one, will be avoiding this one. No offense but I really don't think that a British gwailo guy (who seems very much like those guys who wants a Japanese woman because he thinks they will take care of his every need) knows little of Geisha tradition (let alone be an expert). This was a work of fiction that I had intended on reading until I saw him in an interview and he made my skin crawl. I am even less inclined to see the film...
Also, what's with a Chinese woman playing a Japanese? Perhaps no self-respecting Japanese woman would play the role? (That actually makes me think of Vivian Wu playing the lead in the "Pillow Book" - which by the way, I enjoyed)

OH Homer, I'm so over the Geisha theme. This year, I'm gonna be a blueberry Cupcake for Halloween.
Robert, there are definately better choice of actress whom they can cast to play the lead...but Zhang Ziyi is more known internationally.... I didn't want to see this movie at first.... (*cough* damn it, how come they didn't film it in NY?!?! I sooo wanted to play an Extra in the film) -- but I'll go see the movie for Michelle Yeoh and Gong Li.
As for Lola, there has been a big big big thingy over having Chinese Actress playing the lead Japanese roles. Not that the Japanese actress didn't want the role, they were just not casted. I wonder why this is such a big thing for MoG when 80% of the lead cast in THe JOy Luck Club were Non-Chinese playing Chinese - and on one said a thing.

I'm interested in seeing this one, particularly to se Zhang Ziyi in something other than a martial arts film. I think she's got qite a career ahead of her.

THAT looks amazing! I read the book because I heard the movie was coming out... and from the snapshots you have, it looks even better than I had imagined it!
